Fantastic Information on Anti-Snoring Devices

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

There are many so-called anti-snoring devices on the market today, from a snore pillow to nasal strips to things that look like the bite guards that athletes wear.  If you’ve gotten one from your doctor or dentist, you may be all set, and hopefully it’s working for you.  But for those who are still in the market, here is some information to consider about sorting through all those anti-snoring devices and finding the right one for you.

Nasal Strips

One thing to consider is why you snore.  For many, their nose is clogged and plugged due to asthma, allergies, dry weather, pollen or dust, or some other factor. When the nasal passages are blocked, the body will obviously cause the mouth to fall open so that one can breathe. While you do this during sleep, you’re probably going to start snoring.  So how to stop snoring in these cases, good anti-snoring devices to try are the nasal strips you often see advertised on television and the internet.  Many are just spongy strips on a small spring that adhere to your nose and gently pull it open, thereby allowing you to breathe through it.They regularly enclose no medicine of any sort, although some are now being offered with a small coating of menthol which further opens the nasal passages. These are a number of preferred anti-snoring devices for many for the reason that they are affordable, discreet, and don’t require any type of prescription or appointment to the doctor’s office to use.

Mouthpieces

There are many types of mouthpieces that are offered as anti-snoring devices, and these typically are gotten from your doctor or dentist.  This is because they often need to be custom fitted to your jaw line.  These mouthpieces work as anti-snoring devices because they do not allow the tongue to fall into the back of the throat and keep the airway open. They also softly push the lower jaw ahead so that it does not fall open without cause.

If you’re considering mouthpieces as anti-snoring devices, you probably need to speak to your dentist rather than your doctor.  He or she can take a mold of your mouth and then form the device there or send it out to a specialist.  Most have been shown to be very effective in their use but are usually tried only after all other options have failed, since they can be quite expensive.

What to Remember With Anti-Snoring Devices

Whatever solution you try and ultimately wind up with, make sure that it’s something comfortable and workable for you.  It does no good to apply anti-snoring devices that hurt or that keep you up at night; what is the point of curing your snoring if your mouthpiece now keeps you awake or your nasal strip is itchy?  And many doctors and dentists recommend using more than one product to work in conjunction or harmony with each other, so don’t be surprised if you are recommended both a mouthpiece and a throat spray, or a nasal strip and a snoring pillow, and so on to stop snoring.

Chronic Lack of Sleep Causes Serious Health Problems

A consistent lack of sleep is currently tied to heart disease, as this lack of rest releases stress hormones and proteins that increase the risk of heart attacks and even strokes.  According to WebMD, a recent study reported that women who got less than five hours per sleep every night on a consistent basis were 45% more likely to have serious heart conditions that women who got the full recommended eight hours.  Obviously if you appreciate good heart health, you will understand the need to get help with stop snoring so that your circulatory system can be protected.  These stress hormones are nothing to be easily dismissed.

Depression and Help With Snoring Problems

It seems that depression and sleep loss are a vicious cycle; depression can lead to insomnia, and a lack of sleep can lead to depression.  Many people are not even aware of the fact that if they got proper help with finding snoring cures, this may alleviate their mood and help their depression by allowing them enough sleep to feel energized the next day. They could also be more able to exercise, which in of itself is a good treatment for depression also.

Other Serious Conditions

Chronic sleeplessness has also been linked to some forms of cancer, with mood swings and a lack of concentration and problem solving skills.  All of these are very serious and sometimes life threatening conditions, which should encourage anyone to get the needed help with snoring problems that’s available to them.

Some Natural Cures for Snoring

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

There are a lot of so-called snoring cures on the market today, from fancy pillows to homeopathic remedies and throat sprays and so many more.  How do you know if any of these work?  And why should you spend all your money on expensive pillows and harsh pills and other medications, if you’re not sure about their effectiveness?

It’s true that many of these cures for snoring actually do seem to work quite well for many people, however, there are some natural remedies and other products you can try that will probably work just as well.  You don’t need to spend a ton of money on them either, and they are not invasive or harsh, and will not interfere with other medications you’re taking or other conditions you may have.  Many have reported that these natural cures for snoring work just as well as the expensive treatment options they had tried previously, and even helped them to get a better night’s sleep and feel more well-rested all the way around.  So if you’d like to try one or more for yourself, here they are:

Some Natural Oils

Have you ever noticed that a menthol cough drop not only helps soothe your cough but also clears your sinuses as well?  The action of the menthol clears away obstructions and built-up mucus in your sinus cavities.  Very often a person snores because their nasal cavities are blocked, forcing them to breathe through their mouth.  Menthol oil has been found to be one of the best snoring cures because it clears those blocked sinuses and allows a person to breathe freely and more easily. You can find uncontaminated menthol oil in health food or vitamin stores, or buy it in different products.Eucalyptus is one more product that does a great deal the same thing – opening those blocked sinuses and allowing a person to breathe easier.  These two oils are also considered not just cures for snoring but as a way to help the lungs and the respiratory system relax and breathe easier overall.

Humidity and Moisture

One of the better to stop snoring for many people is to add a humidifier or vaporizer to the bedroom and to turn it all the way up.  When your throat and nasal cavities are dry, the air passing through them is going to cause the tissue to vibrate.  Many people snore more in the winter and other cold, dry months.  It seems odd that these little appliances are great cures for snoring, but they really do work for many people.  And if you get a good vaporizer, you can add some of the menthol and eucalyptus oil as well.  If you have back problems, you might consider a moist heating pad before going to bed, as this can help your lungs relax as well, and adds moisture to those areas.

These are not difficult or expensive cures for snoring, as we’ve said.  But before you spend good money on the other products, you might want to give these simple solutions a try.
