Think I could have sleep apnea?

Monday, January 12th, 2009

So here is my problem. Everyday for the past 10 days give or take a day I wake up around noon, feel tired most of the day, get a throbbing headache around 8-9 PM, take motrin which almost always cures it, go to sleep around 2-3 AM. I have bene researching sleep apnea and the symptoms. I do no wake up suddently in the middle of the night nore fall alseep during the day, just feel tired. I also have terrible later summer allergies, which I think may be the true culprit. I haev alwasy had them though and have never had headaches like these. any suggestions would be great. thanks

It’s just allergies. I started snoring again around Aug 17. My allergies are so bad they make me feel like I am getting the flu and I don’t have any energy to do anything. Headaches have been ok so far but I do get allergy headaches.

Apnea is when your breathing is interrupted and you stop breathing for a moment. You don’t wake up fully it just interrupts your sleep.

Anyway ragweed just started about 2 weeks ago and everyone is miserable lately. So that’s where I would put the blame if I were you.

Do I have sleep apnea or should I stop smoking?

Monday, January 12th, 2009

I can get 10 hours of sleep and still feel very tired in the morning, come to think about it, I don't think I've woken up feeling refreshed in years. I had my tonsils out to prevent 'obstructive sleep apnea' and it has helped with sore throats but hasn't made my sleeping patterns any different. When I fall asleep, I stay asleep, rarely wake up and rarely move even though I am an extremely light sleeper always. I try to go to bed and wake up at the same times. It's like I'm exhausted every single evening from a normal day. Do I have sleep apnea or could it be caused by smoking cigarettes?

Could be both, easier/cheapest thing to do to get somewhat of an idea as to what is going on is to quit smoking and see if that makes a difference.

I recently quit smoking and noticed a huge difference in breathing but has not helped my sleep apnea (still wake myself up snoring) but I do feel more refreshed on a daily basis.

(I quit smoking with the laser procedure)

Has anyone had surgery to correct sleep apnea??

tell me about it!

did it work? what was recovery like? what are the risks?

A good friend of mine had it, and he says he feels so much better now. His nose isn't 100% un-stuffed…but he sleeps soundly during the night and wakes up feeling refreshed instead of even more tired. The recovery seemd relatively fast, like 2 weeks or so. I don't know the risks, though.

My mom has serious sleep apnea but does not have the money to help herself…what can she do?

Monday, January 12th, 2009

I am so concerned about my mom who has moderate to severe sleep apnea. She has gone to the doctor and has been told she needs to take immediate steps to help herself (like surgery or the machine), but because of my family's medical bills, she consistently denies herself to put the rest of us first. My family and I have tried to convince her to get what she needs to have done regardless, but she won't, because she knows it will probably be expensive. Are there some effective things she can do instead of surgery or the machine? I've heard of home remedies, but are these good enough?? Please help!

Step one: Lose weight
Step two: Get some breathe right strips and use them every night
Step three: Go to pharmacy and get the new apnea over the counter devide that you can do yourself.
Step four: Make more money and get to the doctor to get the advanced equipment now available.
Step five: Get a good nights sleep
