Cures or symptom controls for sleep apnea other than C-PAP and Uvula Reduction?

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I am aware of the C-PAP and the operation for uvula reduction but are there any others out there? I Googled it and really came up with only these two or variations thereof.
I am working on loosing 40 pounds right now. I had a rather severe injury that laid me up and I gained weight but am on the down swing, thanks all, this helped!

I know of nothing else. Some people lose a lot of weight and no longer have sleep apnea. i am 57 yof and use cpap machine and sleep much better. i previously had uvula reduction and i still had sleep apnea and had to do the studies again and get CPAP. Good luck.

Can you get a driver's license if you have sleep apnea?

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea ( a moderate one). I was planning to get my driver's license since I'm 18, but then the doctor didn't recommend it…

Does anyone know whether or not you can get a driver's license if you have sleep apnea? (Oh, I live in California by the way, if there are different laws…)

Also, if you do have sleep apnea, and you do drive, do you have any problems? Or have anyone ever told you that it's better if you don't drive because you're constantly sleepy?

I have know a couple of people with sleep apnea who did have licenses so it might be a state to state difference in laws.

I also have know 2 guys with narcolepsy…..and NO WAY will they ever get a license. I was driving with one of them….I was driving!….and he simply feel asleep while talking to me. Very weird the 1st time that happens.

You might want to check with the agency in your state that issues driver's licenses. Good luck.

Would you recommend the throat surgery for snoring and sleep apnea?

NO. There are always risks when having surgery. They have a machine out that is supposed to work really well. Find yourself a good doctor and look into it.

Does anyone know any other alternative to sleep apnea other than that awful mask?

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Treatment Options: Medication, etc.

There are nose pillows, and also a surgery that places some sort of thing inside your mouth in the back where you cannot truly notice it that can help. Weight loss will help greatly. I have sleep apnea and I know that it can be cumbersome and some poeple cant stand anything on their face. But from day 1 for me I got used to it. I have recently tried to sleep without it and can make it 2 or 3 night without now where I couldnt several months ago. But you do need to use it if you have been diagnosed. Not using it can cause you to have heart problems also and you could stop breathing and never start back up…….check into the sorts of different things you can do to help other than the mask.
